What we do

At Tintern’s Tails, we believe in the effectiveness and ethicality of positive reward-based training methods. Our approach focuses on reinforcing desired behaviours through the use of rewards, such as treats, praise, or playtime, rather than relying on punishment or aversive techniques. By using positive reinforcement, we create a learning environment that is enjoyable and encourages dogs to actively participate in the training process. This method helps build a strong bond between the dog and their owner, as it fosters trust, mutual respect, and clear communication.

We never use negative reinforcement such as prong collars, shock collars or shouting to discourage unwanted behaviour. Negative reinforcement is widely considered ineffective and potentially harmful as it creates fear, anxiety, and stress in dogs, leading to a breakdown in trust and a negative impact on their overall well-being. Additionally, negative reinforcement fails to teach dogs what they should do instead of the unwanted behaviour, leaving them confused and unsure of how to behave appropriately. Positive reinforcement, on the other hand, focuses on rewarding desired behaviours, promoting a trusting and cooperative relationship between the dog and the trainer while effectively shaping their behaviour.
