About Me
I’m a positive reward-based ethical dog trainer who brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the table. With a deep understanding of canine behaviour and training techniques. I’m dedicated to using positive reinforcement methods to foster a strong bond between dogs and their owners.
I never use prong collars, shock collars or any other punishment-based methods. Punishment-based techniques can cause physical and emotional harm to dogs, potentially leading to fear, anxiety, and aggression. These methods can damage the relationship between the dog, the trainer and the owner, hindering the learning process and potentially causing long-term behavioural issues.
Positive reward-based training focuses on rewarding desired behaviours and this approach is based on the understanding that dogs learn best when they associate their actions with positive outcomes, such as treats, praise, or play. By utilising positive techniques, we can create a safe, enjoyable, and effective training environment that promotes the well-being and happiness of both the dog and the owner.
My approach emphasises the well-being and mental stimulation of the dogs, ensuring that their training experience is both effective and humane. By choosing one of our dog training programs means opting for a professional, compassionate and knowledgeable approach to help you and your furry friend achieve your training goals while promoting a harmonious and loving relationship.
My Story
In a previous life I was a mental health nurse but I took a career break and after a lot of reflection, I made the career transition to become a dog trainer instead! After much research into the different types of dog training, I focused on positive and reward based training and trained with the National Dog Training Academy.
My previous experience as a nurse brings valuable skills and knowledge to my new calling. As a mental health nurse, I developed strong communication and empathy skills which are essential when working with both humans and animals. I understand the importance of building trust and rapport, as well as the significance of observing and interpreting behaviour.
My experience in assessing and addressing individual needs and providing support in a compassionate manner translates well into the world of dog training. I recognise that each dog is unique and may require different approaches based on their temperament and background. My background as a mental health nurse allows me to approach dog training holistically, considering not only the physical aspects but also the emotional well-being of the dogs I works with.
